General Information

Juvenile

The Juvenile Division is responsible for handling all records associated with juvenile court cases. Juvenile detention hearings are conducted before a Judge in the Charlotte County Justice Center.

Delinquency

Delinquency cases relate to any person under the age of 18 who has committed a violation of the law such as a felony, misdemeanor, contempt of court, or local county or municipal ordinance.

All records are confidential. However, with proper picture identification a case may be reviewed by the parent, legal guardian and/or child. Court appointed and private attorneys have access to the court files only if they have filed their notice of appearance in the particular case.

Juvenile Court Ordered Restitution

Restitution is processed through the Clerk's Office. However, there is a charge per payment made (per F.S. 28.24(26) a). Refer to Clerks Fee Schedule. Our office will accept only guaranteed funds for restitution: money order, cashier’s check or cash.

Seal or Expunge a Record

Refer to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for information on sealing or expunging a record.

Dependency

Dependency cases relate to juveniles who have been abandoned, abused, or neglected, including children excessively truant from school, persistent runaways, or ungovernable children. Adoption cases handled by the Juvenile Division only include those where parental rights have been terminated.

All records are confidential and can only be seen by parent, legal guardian and/or child with proper picture identification. Court appointed and private attorneys have access to the court files only if they have filed their notice of appearance in the particular case.

Due to the nature of these records, information is not provided over the phone.
