Effective March 20th, 2020 and until further notice, the Official Records Offices at the Clerk’s Charlotte County Justice Center and Murdock Administration Complex will be closed to the public. Essential Court Offices remain open.

OFFICIAL RECORDS / RECORDING

The safety of our customers and staff remains our highest priority. While the Official Records lobbies are closed to the public, we have staff available to process transactions. All customers can continue to complete transactions online, by mail, or by drop box.

To complete a recording transaction by mail, please forward to 350 E. Marion Avenue, Punta Gorda, FL 33950.

To complete a recording transaction by drop box, and with the cooperation of the Tax Collector’s Office, you may use any of their 4 drop-off box locations:

  • 18500 Murdock Circle, Port Charlotte, FL 33948
  • 410 Taylor Street, Punta Gorda, FL 33950
  • 6868 San Casa Drive, Englewood, FL 34224
  • 21229 Olean Blvd, Port Charlotte, FL 33952 **(Drive thru location) – To be used for Tax Deed Redemption

Along with the Recording Documents you mail or drop, you must include your name and telephone number in the event there is an issue with the documents and we need to reach you. Additionally, a check or money order for the proper recording fee must be attached to your Recording Documents. Cash cannot be accepted.

MARRIAGE APPLICATIONS AND CEREMONIES

Our Official Records Offices also handle marriage license applications and perform ceremonies. You can begin your marriage license online at www.charlotteclerk.com. However, finalizing your marriage application and performing your marriage ceremony cannot take place or be scheduled at this time due to CDC social distancing recommendations

PASSPORT APPLICATIONS

Our Official Records Offices also handle the processing of passport applications. Consistent with the U.S. Department of State’s guidelines, we cannot process passport applications at this time.

TAX DEEDS

Our Official Records Offices also handle tax deed sales. Redemptions of tax certificates may be made by mail or delivery to one of the drop box locations listed above. However, if the tax deed auction is scheduled within 2 business days, then please use one of the drop box locations to ensure proper credit before the tax deed auction.
